McKinsey Group chosen as consultant for Quang Ninh development master plan

A meeting to consider and choose the consultant to create the province’s socio-economic development master plan until 2020 and a vision towards 2030 was held on February 18 under the chairmanship of the Vice Chairman of Quang Ninh Provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Van Thanh.

In November 2011, the Prime Minister agreed in principle to allow the province to hire foreign consultants to make planning schemes of overall socioeconomic development, urban development and technical infrastructure construction, land and resources use, human resource development. After that, the province worked with three global well-known consulting firms including McKinsey, Monitor and BCG.

Finally, Quang Ninh decided to choose America-based McKinsey as the consultant for the province’s socio-economic development master plan until 2020 and a vision towards 2030.

The firm has served as an adviser to many businesses and institutions in Vietnam with over 50 projects for over 10 years.

The main idea of the master plan that McKinsey presented to Quang Ninh province is “Quang Ninh is the pioneer in the national socio-economic strategy in which tourism will be the key industry”.

Accordingly, McKinsey suggests 6 big ideas to get started including making Quang Ninh’s tourism industry distinctive, investing in old and new traditions, launching aggressive carbon management program, building best-in-class educational situations, becoming a trade portal between ASEAN and China.
