As reported by the monitoring board of Ha Long - Van Don expressway, all of the booths collected toll paid by more than 30,0000 vehicle turns during the first week of operation.
The expressway has been opened to traffic since Feb. 1 after three years of construction under Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) investment form. With a total length of 60 kilometers, this is the longest highway in Quang Ninh.
The route is currently operated with the maximum speed of 80 kilometers per hour so that people can get familiar with the new expressway; the speed will be adjusted to the designed one of 100 kilometers per hour after 3 months.
There are four toll stations along the whole route including two main ones with eight automatic ticket inspecting gates each at the beginning and the ending points of the route. Two sub- stations with six automatic ticket gates each are placed at entry and exit points.
The new expressway opened on the ocassion of the Lunar New Year; therefore, the investor adopted a ticket-free policy from February 1 to 6. All fees of five levels ranging from VND 65,000 to VND 435,000 appying for five vehicle categories have been charged since February 7.
It is estimated that more than 30,000 vehicle turns went through the stations after the first week of toll collection. The investor paid much attention to obey financial regulations, ensure security and traffic safety. The average capacity reached about 4,300 vehicle/day and night.
However, there still remains some problems due to the fact that the highway is located near residental areas. The mornitoring board has worked with local governments to raise the awareness of local people to ensure traffic safety.
