In 2008, Tuan Chau Group built the first marina on the southern Tuan Chau Island that can receive 100-200 vessels. However, it can not satisfy the demand of increasing number of tourist boats. Thus, the Group has planned to construct the second marina on the western Tuan Chau Island next to the first one.

According to the plan approved by the QNPPC, Ha Long Marina covers an area of over 83 hectares and costs 3,000 bln. The project includes a 6-km berth, roads, parking area, a system of water supply and drainage, communications, power, petrol supply and fire prevention, and a marina club. The marina is 10m deep and locates in a shelter area, it will ensure safety for tourist boats to receive and drop the visitors.

According to Tuan Chau Group, 83 hectares of swamp area were backfilled by nearly 4.000 employees and 300 means of transport. 21 contractors are currently implemented all works by using high technology. To date, they have carried out some works at last stages, such as mud dredging and sand pumping to create the basin of the wharf and build the retaining wall.

Ha Long Bay Marina is situated not very far from attractions on Ha Long Bay. This is also a favourable location for building tourism services and logistics facilities contributing to economic development of the sea and island area.. The highlight of the Marina is the 3-storey central station which is designed in a modern architecture. A part from its major function of receiving visitors and guiding them to complete necessary procedures before visiting Ha Long Bay, the central station has other service areas, namely restaurants, entertainment area, supermarket, souvenir shop, offices for boat agents, travel agencies…

Ha Long Bay Marina is expected to be completed by the end of 2012 and put into its operation at the beginning of the year 2013. This will help to increase berths and improve the service quality for tourists at international stature.
