In the midst of Covid-19 influence, Mong Cai City (Vietnam) and Dongxing City (China) as well as functional bodies of the two localities have undertaken measures to boost imports and exports while preventing and controlling the pandemic.
In order to solve congestion at border gates while ensuring Covid-19 prevention and control, on Apr.10, Mong Cai City set up a group of drivers who are responsible for transporting imported and exported commodities via border line between Mong Cai City (Vietnam) and Dongxing City (China). The group consisted of 117 divers at that time, including 90 container drivers and 27 truck drivers. To date, the figure increases to 234 drivers, including 128 container drivers, meeting the demand of transporting imported and exported goods via Bac Luan Bridge No.2 and temporary pontoon bridge over Ka Long River.
With the aim of strictly managing those drivers while conducting Covid-19 prevention and control regulations, Mong Cai Border Gate Management Board gives cards to the drivers and sends driver list to Dongxing Trade and Border Management Department for joint management. Mong Cai Border Gate Management Board also issues regulations and requires the drivers to sign commitments which focus on preventing and controlling Covid-19, supporting enterprises, and obeying Mong Cai Border Gate Management Board’s arrangement. In case of violation, permission cards will be withdrawn.
Mong Cai Municipal People’s Committee also organized a meeting gathering representatives from enterprises and drivers regarding price negotiation. At the meeting, they reached consensus on transportation prices.
According to Mong Cai Border Gate Customs, in the first 4 months of 2020, 421 enterprises conducted import and export procedures for 421 enterprises (189 enterprises in the province and 232 enterprises outside the province) with 12,669 declarations (7,350 import declarations and 5,319 export declarations) with a total turnover of 966 million USD (623 million USD for imports and 342 million USD for export), contributing 375 billion VND to the state budget. There have been 94 enterprises performing customs clearance at Mong Cai Border Gate Customs with a total turnover of 10 million USD, contributing 17 billion VND to the state budget.
