A pilot coastal transport route from Quang Ninh, Hai Phong to Vung Ang in Ha Tinh is planned to open on June 25.
After a one-month pilot, the coastal transport route will be officially announced for business registration.
Documents of 20 ships for pilot operation were received and assessed by Vietnam Register. Vietnam Inland Waterway Administration is now coordinating with Vietnam Maritime Administration to survey rivulets, ports, wharfs and warehouses to accommodate the route.
According to calculations by relevant agencies, each 3,000-tonne ship can carry approximately 80 containers calling at ports along coastal provinces from Quang Ninh, Hai Phong to Ha Tinh with a speed of 7 to 8 nautical miles per hour. After three days, the ship can complete the route at a transport cost of one third to one quarter of road transport cost.
