With the current average traffic circulation on the bridge of 11,000 vehicles per day, Bach Dang Bridge, the very first multi-span cable-stayed bridge in Vietnam and the 8th in the world, has confirmed its significant roles after more than one year of operation. It has not only ensured safety and convenience for people and travellers, but also helped Quang Ninh province conveniently and rapidly connect to the dynamic economic regions in the North.
Opening in September 2018, the 5.3km long bridge has four lanes with maximum speed of 100km per hour. It was constructed under the Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) model. It is one of Quang Ninh’s major projects designed and invested by Vietnam, marking an important breakthrough in transport infrastructure connecting the key economic regions in the North.
According to Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Thao, General Director of Bach Dang Bridge BOT Joint Stock Company, Bach Dang bridge has strongly affirmed its vital roles since it was put into operation. It has contributed to boosting the linkage of the Northern economic triangle region, expanding development space for the whole region, and especially reducing time and distance between Ha Noi and Ha Long from 3.5 hours to 1.5 hours and from 180kms to 130 kms, respectively.
In terms of effectiveness, Bach Dang Bridge has brought Quang Ninh much economic and socio benefits. It not only facilitates people and vehicles to travel but also has great impacts on attracting investments into Quang Ninh so that the province could foster the growth of services and tourism.
Bach Dang bridge and other dynamic transport infrastructure projects have contributed to enhancing Quang Ninh’s position in terms of investment and tourism development. It can be clearly seen that, since those important projects were put into use, there is an increasing number of investors coming to Quang Ninh to seek for investment opportunities as well as tourist arrivals.
