10.79 mln tons of coal exploited in Q1

At a meeting held on Apr. 9 in Ha Long city to review the tasks performance in the first quarter and set missions for the second quarter, the Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Holding Corporation Limited (Vinacomin) reported that in the first quarter of the year, the Corporation has exploited 10.79 million tons of coal, reaching 27% of the year’s plan and equal to 112% over the same period last year.

This is the highest-ever coal mining output in the 5 past years. Also in the first quarter, more than 10.5 million tons of coal was sold, accounting for 25% of the year’s plan and seeing a rise of 10% in comparison with last year.

The Vinacomin is reported to earn over VND16,884 billion in revenue of coal exploitation, occupying 24.5% of the year’s plan, equal to 113% against the same period last year.

In the second quarter, the Vinacomin targets to exploit more than 10.8 million tons of coal and sell over 12.2 million tons. It aims to reach around 55% of the year’s plan in the first 6 months of 2019.

In order to accomplish this target, the Vinacomin plans to mix imported coal and available domestic coal so as to meet the demands of the electricity sector. Labor safety will continue to be tightened and technologies for coal mining will be renewed with the aim of increasing productivity and improve the working conditions for workers.
