Expanding agricultural product consumption through digital platforms

From coded farming and aquaculture areas to products carrying QR codes for origin traceability and cashless payments, the foundations of the digital economy are gradually becoming part of agricultural production in Quang Ninh. Taking advantage of this trend, businesses and farmers are stepping up e-commerce, bringing agricultural products onto digital platforms and gradually expanding their markets.

As a young entrepreneur, Director of Cai Rong HCM Fish Sauce Joint Stock Company Nguyen Duc Manh has a strong interest in and confidence in digital technology and e-commerce. His company produces traditional high-protein fish sauce. However, as the products entered the market relatively late, they have faced certain difficulties competing with established brands in the same segment.

After conducting market surveys, Director Nguyen Duc Manh identified online sales and digital platforms as one of the company’s potential distribution channels. He taught himself to update his knowledge of online sales and trained employees in digital technology, while bringing products onto e-commerce platforms and setting up online stores for promotion and sales.

Cai Rong HCM Fish Sauce Joint Stock Company is also among the city’s pioneering businesses in attaching QR codes to products for origin traceability and using customer reviews as a multi-way interaction channel for its products. These efforts have helped the company’s online sales increase steadily.

Taking a similarly serious approach to e-commerce, Tran Thi Ha from Tien An area, Quang Yen ward, has been making effective use of livestream sales of soft custard apples on Zalo and Facebook. Every day, her family’s orchard becomes the “stage” for her livestreams, where she uses digital platforms to tell the story of local growers and Quang Yen soft custard apples.

Ha said: “At first, I livestreamed simply to introduce our local speciality to more people living far away. Later, many viewers placed orders and completed their payments. That was when I realised that buying, selling and transactions could all take place directly during livestream sessions. I could both promote and sell the products without having to pay for retail premises or in-store sales staff.”

With more than 430 certified OCOP products whose value has been established, Quang Ninh’s agricultural products have greater opportunities to reach wider markets through e-commerce. Beyond traditional channels, local authorities and functional agencies have actively supported farmers and cooperatives in accessing the digital space through websites, fanpages and online platforms.

During the 2021–2025 period alone, the Quang Ninh Farmers’ Union supported more than 6,300 members in joining e-commerce platforms, encouraged more than 41,000 people to use the Vietnam Farmers app, and brought nearly 49,000 production households onto digital platforms.
