Yellow flower tea trees are popular in Ba Che District. In recent years, this kind of tree has been developed in Dong Trieu.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Anh living at Ba Xa hamlet, An Sinh Commune, is one of the pioneers to grow yellow flower tea tress in Dong Trieu. In 2000, her family invested in developing a 32 ha farming model, of which 20 ha were for timber cultivation, 5 ha for fruit cultivation. She also raised 400 wild boars, chickens, ducks and musk ducks, apart from fish on 3 ha pond. She earned VND 300-400 million a year.
She recognized that yellow flower tea trees wildly growing in the area near her forests but they are sold in the market with rather high price (VND 50,000 - 10,000 a tree), she has then searched for information about this tree since 2015.
Yellow flower tea tree well adapt to climate and soil in An Sinh Commune but it prefers shade and cannot survive flooding. In 2016, she decided to convert 5 ha of fruit cultivation into the area for growing yellow flower tea trees. She also spent 5 billion VND to buy seedlings and fertilizers as well as install irrigation system to develop this kind of tree.
In 2018, Ms. Nguyen Thi Anh worked with 6 households in An Sinh Commune to establish Huyen Anh Eco Yellow Flower Tea Cooperative with the aim of cultivating seedlings and expanding trees planting.
After 3 years, the 5 ha with 15,000 yellow flower tea trees grow well, providing one ton of dried leaves and 10kg of dried flowers after harvesting. With its current price of 600,000 VND a kg of dried leaves and over VND 20 million a kg of dried flowers, Huyen Anh Eco Yellow Flower Tea Cooperative’s model promises high incomes.
