The bridge used to be an accident black spot, affecting travel and socio-economic growth of the locality. It plays an important role in terms of ensuring traffic circulation to the major sites of the city, such as Vietnam-Sweden Uong Bi Hospital, national highway 18A, the central square, Uong Bi high school, Ba Vang Pagoda, etc…  11 bill VND sourced from the city’s budget was invested to expand the bridge to the width of 12m, three times larger than it was.

A local resident named Nguyen The Canh said that the city’s leaders have quickly responded to the local residents’ need by disbursing its budget to this upgrading project. The action shows their care and insight to the locals and paves the way for regional socio-economic development.

Along with River Sinh 3 bridge, in 2018, Uong Bi actively mobilized fund from various sources to upgrade Hai Thanh Bridge and its linking road, facilitating travel of local residents in Trung Vuong and Bac Son wards; to carry out an inter-ward road between Thanh Son and Phuong Dong wards… These projects were invested with stable design, higher technical criteria, and helped solving previously raised traffic problems as well.
