Quang Yen – an ancient land of over 600-year-old with historical and cultural sediments – is bestowed with beautiful landscapes. It has two traditional craft villages, namely Hung Hoc Fishing Tool Making Village and Cong Muong Wooden Boat Building Village. Preserving craft villages in association with tourism development is considered a sustainable way for development in recent years in two villages.
Great potentials
Wooden boat building in Phong Luu Village (Cong Muong Village nowadays), Phong Hai Ward dated back more than 400 years ago. It was recognized as traditional craft village in 2015. Travelling to Cong Muong Craft Village, you have chance to witness the process of building wooden boats and make beveled boat products. This is a new type of business in the village.
Visiting Hung Hoc Fishing Tackle Village (in Nam Hoa Ward) which was established in mid 15th century and bears typical features of Ha Nam Island, visitors will get more understanding about the way that locals create fishing tools, for example bamboo fish coop, or bamboo boats. At the end of November 2014, Hung Hoc Fishing Tackle Village was recognized as traditional craft. Local artisans also produced small and distinguished craft bamboo boats which are recognized as Quang Ninh’s OCOP products.
As being near Ha Long City and Uong Bi City, Quang Yen Town has great potential to develop craft villages and form an attractive tourism triangle. Besides, the two villages have rich history and unique cultural features of an ancient land, which will evoke visitors’ demand of adventure.
Wakening up potentials
Thanks to the concern and good direction of the provincial and local authorities, producers in Quang Yen’s craft village have been supported with labels, packages, bags, leaflets, product logos. Furthermore, offering different kinds of tours to craft villages is another effective way to lure more tourists. In addition to visits to craft villages, tourists have opportunities to row boats along river in front of Coc Communal House, visit Coc Communal House, burn incense in the Communal House, and join the process of making “gio” cake with local people and enjoy the specialty of Quang Yen Town.
Craft village tourism plays a significant role in preserving culture and developing local economy. From available potential and plans oriented by the province and the town, craft village tourism in Quang Yen Town has been gradually completed and will soon become a must-visit tourist attraction to visitors.
