Along with Tien Yen chicken, aquaculture development, notably white-leg shrimp, has fully exploited the district’s potential and advantages, thus promoting local socio-economic development.
Many localities in Tien Yen District with potential and strength of natural resources and water surface area like Dong Rui, Hai Lang, Dong Ngu, Dong Hai… have been making aquaculture as a major sector in economic development. According to Tien Yen District’s Office of Agriculture and Rural Development, total seafood production in 2018 in the district reached 7,300 tons (a year on year in crease of 5.1%), including 3,462 tons of aqua-farming. The area of aquaculture covered 1,432ha (up by 12.2% against that in 2017). Fishery sector provides jobs for 3,445 local workers, 1,670 of them have stable income from aquaculture.
To make aqua farming more efficient, Tien Yen District has implemented a number of measures such as applying advanced science and technologies in production, setting up centralized production areas, seeking markets, protecting the environment and reproducing aquatic resources. Besides, the district put a focus on propagandizing, providing training courses on aquaculture knowledge, skills, as well as disease prevention for cultivators.
Tien Yen District defines aquaculture as sustainable development on commercial scale, serving the need of customers in the province and other neighboring localities. This year, total seafood production in the district is estimated at 8,100 tons, including 3,500 tons of aqua-farming. The district plans to increase the area of intensive and semi-intensive aquaculture by 300 ha in Hai Lang, Dong Ngu, Dong Hai, Dong Rui.
