It is likely to take time to fight against Covid-19. In this fight, Quang Ninh has undertaken a number of unique and useful innovations with the aim of pushing back the disease spread.
3 innovations within a week
Vice-principal of Construction and Industries College, Le Van Loi, said “Amid Covid-19 spirals, the college’s leaders held meetings to put forwards solutions to the disease prevention and control”. With the spirit “so said so done”, the college introduced disinfectant spraying machine, untouched body temperature scanner, and full-body disinfection chamber.
“It takes us almost just one week from coming up with the ideas to completing products. We are now making some changes to make them better and more useful”, said Hoang Minh Thuan, the manager of Department for Scientific Research
The first disinfectant spraying machines were offered to Lien Phuong and Dong Minh Residential Areas in Phuong Dong Ward, Uong Bi City and installed at the entrance of the college. Besides, untouched body temperature scanner, and full-body disinfection chamber were placed in front of the college headquarter. Since the beginning of April, the college has boosted the production of disinfectant spraying machines then offered them to many offices in Uong Bi in particular and in Quang Ninh in general as well as the Ministry of Industry and Trade…
Information and technological application around the clock
Back to Lunar New Year 2020, when Covid-19 disease started to draw the world’s attention and Vietnam reported no cases, Quang Ninh Center for Disease Control (CDC) had already operated disease prevention system.
Being as China-bordering province which has an airport, seaports, and regular import and export activities, Quang Ninh faces the high risk of Covid-19 infection. Therefore, right on Feb 4, Quang Ninh CDC launched a software for disease report at the website http://quangninhcdc.vn, making it the first and the only province nationwide to do so to collect information on Covid-19.
Quang Ninh CDC also launched free-of-charge hotline 18009214 which offers a number of services, namely providing the disease situation in the province, reporting suspected or infected Covid-19 cases, providing phone numbers of medical units which are responsible for receiving disease information, providing consultancy
When Covid-19 appeared in Vietnam, Quang Ninh immediately kicked off preventive system. Quang Ninh is among few provinces and cities which are eligible to test and affirm Covid-19. The testing capacity has increased to 700-900 samples a day from 100 samples a day.
Small but significantly meaningful action
In order to cope with the invisible virus SAR-CoV-2, medical workers in provincial Traditional Medicine Hospital, Binh Lieu District’s Health Center, Ba Che District’s Health Center… has made face shields to limit the risk of infection. Despite being simple and low-cost designs, they help health workers and patients’ relative feel secured when doing their jobs.
Some coal companies, namely Ha Lam Coal Joint-stock Company and Nam Mau Coal Company, have put automatic full-body disinfection chambers into operation. Nguyen Tuan Linh, a 9-grade pupil at Ha An Secondary School in Quang Yen Town, even fabricated by himself automatic hand sanitizers and offered to Quang Ninh Hospital and Quang Yen Town’s Health Center.
Youth unions come up with interesting ideas. Hai Lang Youth Union in Tien Yen District make videos about games for children with the aim of supporting parents during the period of social distancing. Meanwhile, Ba Che District’s Youth Union introduces Chibi model that are dummies wearing youth union’s uniform, face masks, and holding banners on Covid-19 prevention and control.
Covid-19 prevention and control is everyone’s responsibility. The useful technologically-applied innovations to fight against Covid-19 reflect not only social responsibility of each individual and organization but also unity and joint effort of Quang Ninh’s people in overcoming difficulties and challenges.
