Quang Yen Town, where specific features of a coastal area and traditional craft villages in the Northern Delta are well preserved, is considered as a land with good potential for tourism development. The town focuses on renewing and making breakthroughs in craft village development.
Though there are nearly 100 traditional craft jobs in Quang Yen Town, just five of them have been recognized by Quang Ninh Provincial People’s Committee, namely making “gio” cake in Phong Coc, making noodle in Hiep Hoa, building wooden boats in Do Chanh, making fishing tools in Hung Hoc, and building wooden boats in Cong Muong.
Other kinds of jobs and craft villages are in small scale, mainly under the form of household production, and without connection among households, therefore they do not satisfy requirements for traditional craft occupations and villages.
According to the town’s socio-economic master plan, Quang Yen will be developed into a new economic center and a seaport hub of Quang Ninh. Urban areas, industrial parks, and trade centers are gradually formed. Handicraft, specifically craft villages, is defined as the town’s strength.
Quang Yen Town’s Chairman, Tran Duc Thang, said that the town had given priority to infrastructure development to serve tourism development and enhanced advertisements and promotions for tourism development.
The town in coordination with travel companies to organize training courses for craft villagers on developing a tourism business, creating tourism products, for example experience tours, and marketing products with the motto “one craft village one product”
Quang Yen Town sets a target of increasing workforce in craft villages to 25-30% by 2025.
