The modern infrastructure of the Ha Long International Cruise Port gives Quang Ninh a distinct advantage in welcoming large-scale cruise ships.

Cruise tourism is emerging as an increasingly natural fit for Quang Ninh’s expanding visitor economy, offering guests a deeper, more measured way to experience the destination.

"In the first nine months of 2026, Quang Ninh welcomed 49 international cruise ships carrying nearly 59,000 passengers", said Bui Quang Tuan, Managing Director of the Ha Long International Cruise Port branch. "During the third quarter alone, five vessels brought over 8,100 visitors to explore and experience the destination. The steady arrival of these vessels reflects a natural, growing alignment with regional maritime itineraries and a shared appreciation for what the area offers".

According to a report by Tourism Economics and Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) in collaboration with the Singapore Tourism Board, Southeast Asia's cruise sector generated over $10 billion in economic output in 2024. Vietnam generally, and Quang Ninh specifically, are thoughtfully exploring the potential of this evolving market.

The report also shows that 85% of passengers rate their Southeast Asian experiences positively, with 47% expressing intentions to return for extended land-based vacations. These findings highlight a meaningful opportunity: cruise visits introduce travelers to the destination, laying the groundwork for unhurried, long-stay journeys in the future.

A central foundation supporting international guests is the region's dedicated passenger port infrastructure. In 2026, the Ha Long International Cruise Port was once again named Asia's Leading Cruise Port by the World Travel Awards, marking its fourth time earning the honor, following previous wins in 2020, 2021, and 2022.

This consecutive recognition reflects a steady commitment to specialized service quality, quietly enhancing Quang Ninh's presence within global maritime routes. Furthermore, the destination's natural advantage lies in the seamless, convenient connection between the port and rich local landmarks. Stepping ashore, travelers can easily explore Ha Long Bay, cultural sites, museums, urban centers, dining spaces, and localized experiences within timeframes thoughtfully tailored to vessel schedules.

Through the first nine months of 2026, Quang Ninh welcomed approximately 18.8 million visitors, including roughly 4.21 million international arrivals, with total tourism revenue estimated at VND 56.4 trillion. International source markets remain wonderfully diverse, spanning China, South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, India, ASEAN nations, Europe, North America, and Australia. Chinese visitors account for more than 35% of international arrivals, arriving via land, air, and sea routes.

This broad market presence allows the city to welcome varied groups of travelers while naturally balancing traditional flows. In order to best serve these guests, Quang Ninh focuses on curating distinct, thoughtful experiences tailored to the unique preferences of each visitor segment.

For the full year of 2026, Quang Ninh targets over 23 million visitors and upwards of VND 71 trillion in tourism revenue. Between now and year-end, roughly 20 to 25 international cruise ships are scheduled to dock. These travelers enjoy a rich rhythm: while port stays are concise, their interest in sightseeing, cultural immersion, culinary exploration, and local craftsmanship is deeply engaging. Consequently, the local tourism community is dedicated to offering warm, high-value experiences that inspire a desire to return.

According to Nguyen The Hue, Chairman of the Quang Ninh Tourism Association, the 2026 Autumn-Winter tourism stimulus campaign is being rolled out collaboratively, with participation from over 20 three- to five-star accommodations. Participating properties are offering thoughtful preferences ranging from 20% to over 60%, bundled with dining, wellness, and lifestyle amenities. This initiative helps build a dependable service ecosystem capable of gently meeting the diverse needs of global travelers.

Concurrently, culturally rich local experiences are expanding visitor choices, including traditional three-board wooden boats (thuyen ba vach) on Ha Long Bay, scenic luxury cruises, 3D mapping light shows, and the opening of Soi Sim beach.

Beyond infrastructure and variety, attentive service quality remains at the heart of Quang Ninh's welcoming ethos. The locality currently features over 1,370 accommodations totaling 32,696 rooms; 109 overnight cruise vessels with 1,967 cabins; more than 200 tour operators; and 2,442 licensed tour guides. This established network provides a reliable foundation for greeting and supporting international guests with care and professionalism.

Promotional efforts have also reached out gently to Russia, the CIS, Australia, India, China, and Southeast Asia. Through open international cooperation, welcoming familiarization trips, and meaningful industry connections, Quang Ninh is introducing its cultural and natural heritage to global partners with grace and sincerity.
