Quang Ninh elevates elderly care
As the province’s leading facility in geriatric care and rehabilitation, Quang Ninh Geriatrics and Rehabilitation Hospital has, in recent years, consistently renewed its service delivery model with a strong focus on quality and patient-centered care.
These efforts have not only improved treatment outcomes but have also significantly enhanced the quality of life for elderly patients, a demographic that continues to grow in both size and complexity of medical needs.
Formed in late 2021 through the merger of two specialized institutions, the former Geriatrics Hospital and the Rehabilitation Hospital, the facility now operates with 5 administrative departments, 13 clinical specialties, and a dedicated workshop for assistive device production.
With a staff of nearly 212, including 61 doctors, the hospital has maintained a high standard of clinical performance while actively rolling out community-oriented health programs aimed at long-term, inclusive wellness.
Between mid-December 2024 and June 2025, the hospital recorded 4,295 outpatient visits, a slight increase of 1.7% compared to the same period in 2024, and provided inpatient care for over 3,700 patients, most of whom were covered under Vietnam’s national health insurance scheme. Impressively, the hospital’s bed occupancy rate reached 114.6%, underscoring both the demand for services and its operational efficiency.
While inpatient treatment remains central, the hospital has placed increasing emphasis on advanced therapeutic interventions. These include hyperbaric oxygen therapy, early post-stroke rehabilitation, and customized treatment protocols tailored to the specific physiological and psychological characteristics of older adults. The recent addition of a high-tech treatment unit within the Department of Physical Therapy has further enhanced the effectiveness of rehabilitation services.

Nutrition and clinical dietetics, vital yet often under-addressed aspects of elderly care, are given serious attention. With a specialized team comprising nutritionists and medical doctors, the hospital has conducted targeted nutrition counseling sessions and awareness programs addressing common geriatric conditions such as hypertension, osteoporosis, and dyslipidemia.
In just the first half of 2025, the hospital recorded over 150 nutrition consultations and nearly 250 inpatient case reviews, all focused on optimizing patient recovery through dietary support.
A standout initiative is the Assistive Device Workshop, which began operation in January 2025. Since its launch, the workshop has consulted and provided personalized support for 160 patients in need of mobility aids such as leg braces, splints, and prosthetic limbs. For elderly patients, stroke survivors, and individuals with motor impairments, this service has proven especially meaningful, offering not just physical support but also dignity and independence.
Beyond clinical care, the hospital plays an active role in community-based rehabilitation and public health education. Through outreach programs, early detection initiatives, and localized health promotion campaigns, it is helping to bridge gaps in access while building public awareness around elderly wellness and disease prevention.

In line with its development strategy, the hospital is also investing in research, training, and international collaboration. It is currently leading a provincial research project that combines hyperbaric oxygen therapy with transcranial magnetic stimulation to explore new treatment options for insomnia in elderly patients. Meanwhile, partnerships with JICA (Japan) and several hospitals in China have enabled valuable exchanges in medical expertise and workforce development.
Perhaps most critically, the hospital has built a culture of comprehensive, compassionate care. From strict application of Level-1 nursing protocols to continuous professional development for its nursing staff, every aspect of patient care is approached with rigor and humanity.
Regular training sessions, simulation workshops, and performance competitions not only sharpen clinical skills but also foster a deeper sense of responsibility and empathy among healthcare workers.
With its evolving infrastructure, dedicated personnel, and community-first mindset, Quang Ninh Geriatrics and Rehabilitation Hospital is setting a new standard in elderly healthcare, one that balances modern medical practice with holistic, human-centered care.
