Besides landscape values, fishing village culture created by fishermen for many generations is being preserved and promoted into unique tourism products, adorning amazing destinations on Ha Long Bay.
Ha Long Bay Heritage not only has great landscape values but also contains invaluable cultural values which contribute to creating and diversifying tourism products and services on Ha Long Bay.
In recent years, Quang Ninh province has always paid special attention to the preservation and promotion of tangible and intangible cultural values. The 1.5 billion VND project on preserving and promoting fishing village’s typical cultural values on Ha Long Bay has been carried out since early 2019 by Ha Long Bay Management Board concerning reparing and removing floating houses, maintaining classrooms, libraries, collecting, displaying and preserving artifacts at Cua Van and Cai Xa Cong resettlement areas; opening floating classrooms which teach and perform dual love song singing, net-knitting etc. The project aims at sustainably and effectively preserving and promoting fishing village cultural values to develop those values into unique tourism products to attract and prolong tourists’ journey on Ha Long Bay.
Fishermen’s daily life has been vividly restored, bringing special emotions and unforgettable experiences to visitors. The reason is that Ha Long Bay possesses magnificent natural landscape and its rustic culture of indigenous people contains charms that cannot be found anywhere else.
According to statistics, the number of visitors to Cua Van Floating Culture Center remarkably increased. In 2019, nearly 50,000 tourist arrivals and nearly 4,000 boat arrivals visited Cua Van Floating Culture Center, over 20% year-on-year increase.
The project initially received active responses from departments and sectors in terms of the effectiveness in preserving and promoting the unique cultural values of the fishermen on the bay. This will also be a basis for Ha Long Bay Management Board to continue implementing next phases of the project, thus turning the fishing village cultural space into a must-visit attraction during the journey to explore Quang Ninh heritage land.
