On Feb. 20, the see-off ceremonies for the newly-recruited soldiers were held at all of the cities and districts across the province.
On this occasion, 1,900 citizens joined military service and 110 ones joined police service. Of which, 225 from Ha Long city, 239 from Cam Pha city, 180 from Uong Bi city, 245 from Quang Yen town, 245 from Dong Trieu town, 66 from Ba Che district, 114 from Tien Yen district, 77 from Binh Lieu district, 95 from Dam Ha district, 140 from Hai Ha district, 100 from Hoanh Bo distrit, 147 from Mong Cai district, 98 from Van Don district and 9 from Co To island district.
Military and police units recruited those new soldiers include the General Department of Engineering (under the Ministry of Defence), Military School (under Military Zone 3), Brigade 405, Brigage 454 (under Military Zone 3), Border Defense Force, the provincial Military Command, the Vietnam People’s Navy and the Vietnam People’s Air Force-Air Defense.
The citizens joining military and police services all met medical requirements, 70 percent of them are college graduates.
Particulary, 403 young people voluntarily wrote the application letter to join army service.
At the ceremony, the provincial and local leaders presented flowers to congratulate and encourage the new soldiers.
The ceremonies taking place in a formal and cosy atmosphere became a signifincat eventl across the province.
The amended Law on Military Duty takes effect this year. Accordingly, there are some amendments, such as the extension of military training service from 18 months to 24 months; one recruitment session in February or March would take place every year, instead of two; raising of the eligibility age for military service among those who attend higher education institutions from 18 to 27; and raising of the eligibility age among those who do not pursue higher education from 18 to 25.
