Inspired by Japan’s One Village One Product OVOP, Quang Ninh was the first province nationwide to carry out OCOP program in 2013, basing on 3 principles namely local actions towards globalization; self-reliance, confidence and creativeness; and human resource training. Producers take initiative in product ideas, markets, production, processing, and consumption while state-owned agencies act as creators concerning business matching, support policies and trade promotion. Therefore, the quality of products and package design are gradually improved to meet market demand of both inside and outside the province. To date, Quang Ninh has 421 OCOP products, 196 of which have been ranked stars.

OCOP program focuses on not only the improvement in the quality of product but also trade promotion and market expansion. Quang Ninh is the first province nationwide to organize a specialized fair for OCOP products.

From 2019, Quang Ninh holds OCOP fairs on commercial scale to replace its annual trade fairs. The province also arranges OCOP Consumption Weeks, advertise OCOP products on e-commerce transaction floors, create favorable conditions for enterprises, cooperatives, producers to popularize their products at both domestic and international fairs and exhibitions…Many OCOP products have affirmed firm footholds in the market like Cai Rong Fish Sauce, Binh Lieu Vermicelli Noodles, Ha Long Squid Paste…

Those achievements will lay a concrete foundation for Quang Ninh’s OCOP products to have a closer approach to international markets and become an important economic development program, thus contributing to affirm the province’s unique trademark.
