In the recent years, Van Yen orange has become one of the most typical agricultural products of Van Yen commune, Van Don District. With its special taste, Van Yen orange is more interested by customers.
Van Yen is one of the poorest communes in Van Don district. Due to complex terrain, thin population, small farmland, locals have to struggle to earn their living. Recently, the commune has changed crops and livestock. As suitable with the local land conditions, the orange has been picked to develop into a key economic plant so as to help locals to break the poverty. By now, the orange cultivation in Van Yen has expanded to nearly 200 hectares, accounting for 50% of the set plan.
With suitable soil and proper care, one hectare can yield from 40 to 50 tons of orange.
Van Yen Commune frequently works with the fruit and vegetable research institute to launch technological transference training courses, focusing on improving breed varieties and quality. The VietGap criteria are also applied to increase oranges’ quality for exportation to other provinces.
Besides, Van Yen Orange has been registered to use trustful label OCOP. At provincial OCOP trade fairs and markets, Van Yen oranges are always winning customers’ choice.
