For a long time, Dong Son – Ky Thuong Natural Conservation Area in Hoanh Bo District has been known for its vast of land, diversified biodiversity value and the greatest tourism potential among forests in the Northwest of Vietnam. In the context of merging Hoanh Bo District into Ha Long City, the values of Dong Son – Ky Thuong Forest, especially the value of tourism potential, are expected to be fully exploited to develop impressive products of eco-tourism, relax tourism, and experience tourism, thus meeting demand of visitors to Ha Long.
Dong Son – Ky Thuong Natural Conservation Area covers an area of 15,600 ha. The figure is expected to reach 20,000 ha by 2021, the largest of its kind in the Northwest of Vietnam. The area is abundant with flora and fauna. It has 1,163 species of woody and herbaceous plants and 224 species in four groups of birds, animals, reptiles and amphibians, including 51 rare and specious species of flora and fauna which are in Vietnam’s Red Book and one in the World’s Red Book. The preservation area is also known for having Vietnam’s Chinese crocodile lizards and snakehead fish.
Thien Son Mountain in the area is 1,090 m high above sea level, which means it is even higher than Yen Tu Mountain. From Thien Son Mountain, you can have a panoramic view of the center of Ha Long City, the Ha Long Bay World Natural Heritage site, Cat Ba Island in Hai Phong and beyond. Up on the top of Thien Son Mountain, you can overlook to Man Mountain in Hoanh Bo and Bai Tho (Poem) Mountain in Ha Long City which are the national relics andthe highest mountains in Cua Luc Bay.
Taking a walk, riding a bicycle in the forest, discovering nature with plants and animal, emerging yourself in a generous mother nature and enjoying fresh air…are considered exciting experience that many countries in the world and even some provinces in Vietnam have been put strong investment in. It is clear that Dong Son – Ky Thuong Forest has enough available values to develop eco-tourism, relax tourism, and experience tourism.
