To prevent flooding during rainy seasons, Mong Cai City gives priority to enhancing the construction progress of Developing Urban Areas along the corridor of Greater Mekong Subregion Project No2 (GMS2 for short).
The 861 billion VND project GMS2 consists of embankment along the banks of Ka Long River, waste water drainage and treatment to the east and and the west of Ka Long River. GMS2 is carried out from 2018-2020.
According to the project mamagement board, the drainage systems on Dong Tri Street, Tran Phu Street, Hoa Binh Boulevard, Hung Vuong – Luong The Vinh route, which are on the east of Ka Long River, have been completed and put into operation prior to rainy season 2019. All water drainage systems are expected to put into use comprehensively in November 2019.
To date, 60% of the construction of the two waste water treatment plants have completed (the one to the east of Ka Long River with the capacity of 8,000m3 day and night and the one to the west of the river with capacity of 4.000m³ day and night),.
Ka Long River Embankment with total length of 2,261m is 40% complete. Specifically, 400 out of 541m of embankment on the west bank of the river have been finished while 1.550 out of 1.720m on the east bank have been accomplished. Constructors will start install lighting systems and plant trees in August. The embankment will be completed in 2020.
Defining GMS2 a very important project to prevent flooding during rainy season and protect local people’s living environment, the project management board asks the constructors to mobilize 100% of workforce and machines to ensure the project’s progress.
The enhancement of GMS2 construction progress also plays vital role in Mong Cai’s socio-economic development. It helps expanding the city’s transportation network and gradually bettering infrastructure in the city.
