On Oct 1st, Quang Ninh Provincial Standing Party’s Committee had a meeting regarding important proposal of merging Ha Long City and Hoanh Bo District. Quang Ninh Provincial Party’s Committee Secretary, cum Chairman of Provincial People’s Council, Nguyen Xuan Ky, presided over the meeting.
According to the proposal, Hoanh Bo District’s total natural land of 843/54km2 and a population of 51,003 people will be merged into Ha Long City’s total natural land of 275.58km2 and population of 249,264 people. The new area, to be called Ha Long City with total area of 1,119.36km2 and population of 300,267 people, will be provincial urban area level 1. The process of merging is expected to be completed within 2019.
Quang Ninh Provincial Party’s Committee Secretary, cum Chairman of Provincial People’s Council, Nguyen Xuan Ky, emphasized that with the aim of turning Quang Ninh into a central city, the merging would provide the new Ha Long City with large enough space for development not only in the next 20-30 years but also in the future. It is also an optimal solution to effectively promote Hoanh Bo District’s un-awaken potential and advantages.
