Diospyros decandra and Bombax ceiba of Dong Phuc Pagoda recognized as Vietnam Heritage Trees

On Nov. 2, “Thi” (known as Diospyros decandra) and “Gao” (known as Bombax ceiba) at Dong Phuc Pagoda, Yen Giang Ward, Quang Yen Town were recognized as Vietnam Heritage Tree by Vietnam Association for Conservation of Nature and  Environment (VACNE).

The “Thi” is over 900 years old, 19m in height with circumference of 5.1 meters meanwhile the “Gao” is over 400 years old, 18m in height with circumference of 5.9 meters. Both of them have possessed precious values for landscape, culture and tourism. After the survey process, the VACNE reviewed and concluded that the “Thi” and “ Gao” trees at Dong Phuc Pagoda met heritage tree criteria.

The two ancient trees recognized as the Vietnam Heritage Trees are the pride of monks, nuns and buddhists of Dong Phuc Pagoda and locals, contributing to raising young generation’s awareness of environmental protection, natural heritage and traditional culture.
