As Quang Ninh gears up for a summer tourism boom, especially in June and July when visitor numbers are set to soar, travel operators are ramping up investments in modern, high-end cruise fleets. From scenic day tours to luxurious overnight stays, these upgraded vessels promise safer, smoother, and more memorable journeys through the region’s breathtaking island routes.

Everland sets sail with premium cruises on Bai Tu Long Bay

Kicking off the summer in style, Everland Group officially launched two luxury cruise ships in early May 2025 at Ao Tien International Port (Van Don District). These high-end vessels mark the debut of Everland’s upscale cruise fleet, which will offer both day tours and overnight experiences across Bai Tu Long Bay, and further afield to the iconic waters of Ha Long Bay and Lan Ha Bay in Hai Phong.

Each vessel boasts a capacity of 99 passengers and features three thoughtfully designed decks, including a main cabin, a VIP lounge, and an expansive open-air deck for taking in panoramic bay views. With passenger safety as a top priority, the ships are outfitted with cutting-edge fire protection systems, lifeboats, life jackets, and emergency response technologies. Onboard, guests are treated to five-star dining with a refined menu of Asian-European fusion cuisine prepared by seasoned hotel chefs, ensuring the journey is as exquisite as the destination.

Island tourism rises: Operators respond with speed and style

Everland isn’t the only player stepping up. Other transport companies are also racing to meet soaring demand. Ka Long Transport JSC, for instance, has introduced a new high-speed vessel just in time for the summer rush. Seating up to 248 passengers, the ship is capable of running up to four round trips daily at peak times. According to Chairman Le Van Tong, this strategic move aims to deliver both convenience and comfort to travelers heading to popular island destinations like Co To.

The vessel is equipped with modern facilities and staffed by a well-trained crew, part of a broader effort by Ka Long and other operators to elevate the travel experience along Quang Ninh’s increasingly popular island routes.

Ao Tien Port bustles with activity

Ao Tien International Port, now a major hub for island tourism, is operating at full throttle. During the recent April 30 - May 1 holiday, the port managed over 550 boat departures, serving nearly 40,000 passengers heading to islands such as Co To, Quan Lan, and Minh Chau. On average, the port handles 6,000-8,000 visitors per day, with weekend traffic surpassing 10,000.

Despite the surge, operations remain smooth and efficient thanks to well-coordinated systems spanning ticketing, passenger services, boarding logistics, and traffic flow. According to Port Director Le Minh Manh, ongoing collaboration with cruise operators is key. The port encourages investments in new ships and upgrades to existing fleets, all in line with legal and safety regulations. These efforts are essential to expanding capacity and enhancing overall service quality ahead of the busy summer season.

A new standard of sea travel emerges

With millions of travelers expected this summer, cruise operators across Quang Ninh are raising the bar. In Ha Long Bay, a wave of new 99-seat steel-hull vessels has already hit the water—bringing modern design, deluxe interiors, and exceptional service standards to the iconic bay. Mr. Tran Van Hong, Head of the Ha Long Tourist Boat Association, noted that local businesses, empowered by supportive policies, have proactively invested in ships that exceed regulatory requirements to better cater to today’s discerning travelers.

These new vessels typically operate two trips per day and are backed by solid partnerships with tour operators, ensuring consistent tourist flows not just in summer, but all year long.

Elevating the onboard experience

Alongside the fleet expansion, cruise operators are doubling down on service upgrades. Booking rates for summer voyages are already hitting 60–80% capacity, with many cruises fully booked on weekends. To meet rising expectations, companies are expanding their teams, upgrading onboard amenities, and curating new experiences that blend fine dining with live entertainment.

Jade Karam, Manager of Grand Pioneers Cruises, shared:
"Beyond the dazzling décor, we’re focused on creating unforgettable moments for our guests. They are considered menus that tell cultural stories, spectacular live shows, fireworks over the bay, and surprise gifts. And we’re just getting started. The summer cruise experience will continue to evolve, offering something fresh and inspiring with every voyage."
