Khe Le used to be the most disadvantage hamlet in Ha Lau Commune. Roads were disconnected. Local people used to live in fear of flooding and landslides. In order to help local people stabilize their lives, in mid-2017, Quang Ninh Provincial People’s Committee and Tien Yen District People’s Committee set up a resettlement area of 8.7 ha. Each household was handed over with an area of 250m2 of land, free of charges. They were even supported with construction costs.

In early 2019, Khe Le Resettlement Area was completed. All 35 new houses meet new rural area standards.

Taking us around the resettlement area, the secretary, cum the head of Khe Le Hamlet, San Chi Nam, was so excited to tell us: “This is the life that Khe Le’s people have been dreaming of for long. One year after having new houses, our life has changed a lot, from lifestyle and living habits to thoughts of doing business to develop economy and escape poverty”.

This spring, San Chi Thanh’s family is happier as his 1,000 chickens are sold with good prices. He said “According to my estimate, we earn a revenue of 200 million VND. We have a profit of nearly 100 million VND after deducting all expenses. Besides, we have more than 30 million VND from selling acacia trees. So I think, I will have a sufficient Tet. And I plan to expand my farm to increase my income”.

Before, there were bad habits in local people’s daily life due to their oldcustoms. But things get better as they know how to keep the environment clean via regular environmental work on village roads. Notably, village neighborhood has been enhanced. Local people are no longer dependent on the authority’s support. They compete to get wealthy.
