On September 15, the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV), in collaboration with Bank Indonesia, co-hosted the 32nd senior-level committee on ASEAN Financial Integration (SLC) in Quang Ninh city.
Delegates gathered in Quang Ninh to discuss regional macroeconomic and financial developments, alongside key priorities in ASEAN’s ongoing financial integration process. The meeting reviewed comprehensive monitoring reports on macroeconomic and financial risks across the region, while evaluating progress made by working committees on banking integration, capital account liberalization, capital market development, and financial inclusion. Participants also assessed ongoing SLC-led initiatives and the status of agreement recalibrations.
A key highlight of the meeting was an update on the ASEAN Financial Cooperation Mechanism Reform Project, scheduled for implementation starting in 2027. The project aims to streamline the region’s banking and financial cooperation structure, eliminate operational overlaps, and concentrate resources on priority sectors. By restructuring working groups and governance mechanisms toward greater agility and transparency, the initiative seeks to sustain existing momentum, improve inter-agency coordination, and accelerate ASEAN financial integration in the coming phase.
Established in 2011, the SLC serves as the steering body providing strategic direction and guidance for major regional banking and financial integration initiatives. Hosting the 32nd meeting underscores Vietnam’s proactive role and commitment to ASEAN financial cooperation. The event offers a valuable opportunity for the country to contribute strategic initiatives, strengthen its engagement in regional frameworks, and elevate its global and regional standing.
Holding the high-level event in Quang Ninh also serves to showcase the province's scenic landscapes, rich culture, and hospitable people to international delegates, further cementing its position as a premier destination for major global events.
