Quang Ninh strengthens fight against crime, smuggling and commercial fraud

On Jan. 13, the Governmental Steering Committee 138 on crime prevention and control held an online conference to review the fight against trafficking, commercial fraud and counterfeit goods in 2021, and put forward the working plan for 2022. Quang Ninh’s Vice Chairman Bui Van Khang, Head of the Provincial Steering Committee 389, chaired the conference in Quang Ninh.

According to reports at the conference, in 2021, funtional forces launched various intensive campaigns against crime, coordinating to effectively prevent and fight crimes related to counterfeit goods and smuggling, successfully investigating major cases and arresting heads of smuggling rings. 

They detected, arrested and handled 2,788 cases of smuggling, commercial fraud and fake goods with the total value of infringing goods of over VND 238.9 billion. 46 cases and 96 people were prosecuted.

There were 995cases of domestic tax violations with the total amount of administrative fines of VND 104.2 billion.

Applauding improvements in crime prevention and control, Vice Chairman Bui Van Khang -  Head of the Provincial Steering Committee 389 acknowledged the efforts of functional forces in the fight against crime, contributing to stabilising the socio-economic situation and strengthening confidence amongst the people.

He also asked the relevant forces and localities to grasp the situation, overcome their shortcomings and enhance state management in ensuring security and order, as well as preventing and combating smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods.

Before, during and after the Lunar New Year 2022, more attention should be paid to investigating and handling organised crime, human trafficking, drug-related crimes, “loan sharking”, illegal exploitation of mineral resources, smuggling of petroleum and mineral products and counterfeit goods, especially medical supplies and equipment for Covid-19 prevention.
