Quang Ninh province celebrates the 100th anniversary of Vietnam’s Revolutionary Journalism
On June 19, Quang Ninh province held a ceremony at the Provincial Conference Center to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Vietnam’s Revolutionary Journalism (1925-2025), 97 years since the founding of Bao Than (The Coal Newspaper), 62 years since the first issue of Quang Ninh Newspaper, and 42 years since Quảng Ninh Television began broadcasting.
Prominent among those were Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Vu Quyet Tien, alongside members of the Standing Committee of the Provincial People’s Council and People’s Committee, and a large gathering of journalists from across the province.
Since the launch of Thanh Nien newspaper by President Ho Chi Minh on June 21, 1925, Vietnam’s revolutionary press has journeyed alongside the nation through every major historical milestone, playing a vital role in the country’s development and defense. Under the Party’s leadership, the press has consistently served as a pillar on the ideological and cultural front, growing stronger and more influential with each passing decade.

In Quang Ninh, Bao Than emerged as a revolutionary voice from the heroic mining region, shedding light on the suffering of workers under colonial rule and calling for solidarity under the Party’s banner. Over the past 97 years, through the establishment of Quang Ninh Newspaper, Quang Ninh Television, and most recently the Provincial Media Group, generations of journalists have carried forward this proud legacy, documenting a Quang Ninh that is ever vibrant, self-reliant, and innovative in the context of the country’s ongoing development.
Numerous journalistic works from Quang Ninh have stood out for their originality and depth, reflecting the province’s pioneering models across various fields. Many of these works have received top honors at national journalism awards, while numerous collectives and individuals have been recognized with prestigious distinctions from the Party and State.

Delivering a speech at the ceremony, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Vu Quyet Tien, praised the commitment and contributions of the province’s media community across generations.
“As we mark a century of Vietnam’s revolutionary journalism, the press and journalists of Quang Ninh can take pride in their profound contributions to building and defending the homeland. They have truly lived up to the title of vanguard soldiers on the ideological and cultural front - eyes clear, hearts pure, pens sharp,” he affirmed.
Looking ahead, he emphasized that in the face of both opportunities and challenges in a new era of development, the press must continue to innovate and adapt. He urged media agencies and journalists in the province to build on past achievements and fully embrace their role as the voice of the Party and government and the forum for the people while remaining committed to professional ethics, political integrity, and continuous learning.
In an era marked by rapid digital transformation and the expansion of global connectivity, he highlighted the need for journalists to swiftly adopt modern journalism practices, new technologies, and AI applications to create compelling, in-depth, and impactful media content. He also called for improved media governance and stronger safeguards to protect journalists’ legal rights and interests, allowing them to work with confidence and dedication.

He stressed that Quang Ninh’s press must continue asserting its pioneering role on the ideological and cultural front, boldly confronting misinformation, defending the ideological foundation of the Party, and highlighting exemplary individuals and initiatives. Through these efforts, the press will help spread positive values and inspire the people to significantly contribute to the development of the province in particular and the country in general.
On this occasion, the Provincial People’s Committee awarded Certificates of Merit to 22 collectives and 33 individuals for their outstanding contributions to journalism and public communications.
The Quang Ninh Journalists’ Association honored senior journalists and awarded the “For the Cause of Vietnamese Journalism” medal to outstanding members.
The event also featured the 2024 Quang Ninh Press Awards, recognizing 67 journalistic works: 10 First Prizes, 20 Second Prizes, 18 Third Prizes, and 19 Consolation Prizes. In addition, the “Journalism Accompanying Quảng Ninh’s Development” competition honored 2 First Prize winners, 8 Second Prize winners, 9 Third Prize winners, and 4 Consolation Prizes.
Many of the awarded entries demonstrated strong alignment with provincial policies and current affairs, offering fresh perspectives and high production value. Several works stood out for their creativity, modern storytelling techniques, and effective use of digital and multimedia tools.
