Quang Ninh elevates OCOP products
With a view to enhancing the economic value of OCOP products by shifting toward large-scale, modern, and specialized agricultural production, Quang Ninh province has rolled out a series of initiatives that have given strong momentum to the OCOP program.
The 15th provincial Party Congress of Quang Ninh (2020-2025 term) set a clear goal to raise the economic value of OCOP products by shifting toward large-scale, modern, and specialized agricultural production. Building on this direction, the province has rolled out a series of initiatives that have given strong momentum to the OCOP program. So far, many 4-star and 5-star products have won recognition at home and abroad, contributing to sustainable rural economic growth.
Take the family of Tran Van Dieu at Quang Long 9 hamlet, Duong Hoa Commune as an example, these long-time tea growers have transitioned from traditional farming to VietGAP-certified practices with stricter standards. “By developing VietGAP-certified tea areas together, we produce safe, high-quality products that buyers actively seek out,” Dieu shared.
Duong Hoa commune has identified the development of concentrated organic and VietGAP-standard tea-growing zones as a key strategy to strengthen the OCOP Duong Hoa tea brand. Currently, the commune has had over 200 hectares of organic tea, with the brand’s products certified at the provincial 4-star OCOP level.
According to Chairman of Đường Hoa Commune People’s Committee, Tran Duc Dung, the commune has also encouraged farmers to apply science and technology in tea cultivation, introduce new high-quality varieties, and link tea production with eco-tourism.

From 2021 to 2025, Quang Ninh has issued 63 plantation codes covering more than 1,528 hectares and 9 packaging facility codes. About 1,100 hectares are under “Good Agricultural Practices” criteria across the province , while 90 hectares of rice and 329 hectares of cinnamon have been certified organic.
These results reflect Quang Ninh’s consistent policies to connect OCOP development with the new rural development program.
Beyond expanding large-scale production, the province has also guided OCOP producers to adopt VietGAP and organic standards, invest in modern technology and closed-loop, eco-friendly production, and enhance competitiveness.
Complementary efforts include packaging design contests, trade fairs, and e-commerce promotion through platforms like Postmart, Voso, and Shopee, helping OCOP products reach wider markets.

“We regularly participate in provincial OCOP fairs such as the September 2 Fair, spring fairs, and summer fairs on April 30. These events give our products greater exposure and open up new market opportunities", said Director of Duc Hau Agricultural and Forestry Cooperative in Quang Yên, Vu Thi Thu Huong.
According to the provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment, Quang Ninh had developed 432 OCOP products rated 3 stars or higher by June 30, including 8 nationally recognized 5-star products.
Looking ahead to 2030, the province aims to further enhance the added value and economic efficiency of its key agricultural and OCOP products, positioning the OCOP program as a major driver of income growth and modern, integrated rural development.
