Quang Ninh celebrates digging the province’s largest tunnel

As part of a coastal road connecting Ha Long city and Cam Pha city, the tunnel through a mountain has been technically opened after 4 months of construction.

This is the largest tunnel through the mountain in Quang Ninh and among the tunnels with the largest roadbed in Vietnam.

The three-lane tunnel which has a total length of 235 meters is considered a highlight of the project to build a coastal road connecting two cities of Ha Long and Cam Pha. The construction of a tunnel instead of slicing through the mountain aims at disminishing environmental impacts, preserving the landscape along the shoreline of Ha Long Bay and Bai Tu Long Bay, and retaining the environment of the limestone mountain system in the area.

The Ha Long-Cam Pha coastal road has a total length of 18.7km, including10.2km passing through Cam Pha city. Construction will be carried out between 2019 and 2020 as part of the provincial transport development plan to 2020 and vision to 2030. It is expected to help ease traffic density on the National Highway 18 and better connect Ha Long and Cam Pha cities.
