Provincial military command launches 24/7 patrols on Ha Long bay
In line with the province’s directive to enhance safety for tourists visiting and staying overnight on Ha Long bay, starting August 6, the Quang Ninh Provincial Military Command has deployed a medical ship and two high-speed patrol boats to conduct 24/7 patrols throughout the bay.
As planned, the vessels patrol the main tourist routes, with one stationed permanently at Ti Top island from 7am to 6pm daily.
The vessels regroup at Tuan Chau island to maintain around-the-clock readiness from 6pm until 7am the next day.
According to Colonel Nguyen Ngoc Son, Deputy Commander of the Provincial Military Command, each duty shift consists of 6-8 personnel, including communications and medical teams. The medical ship is equipped with four stretchers, oxygen tanks, fire extinguishers, and other emergency equipment, ensuring swift response to search and rescue operations whenever necessary.
This increased patrol presence is designed to ensure the safety of tourist boats on Ha Long Bay and foster greater confidence among visitors. Alongside the military efforts, other provincial agencies have also stepped up inspections at piers and ports.
Several task forces are operating along key routes in close coordination with port authorities. The Department of Construction is conducting surprise checks to enforce maritime safety regulations for tourist boats anchored at sightseeing spots.
According to the Ha Long Bay Management Board, the number of tourists visiting the bay increases year after year, typically accounting for around 20% of Quang Ninh’s total tourist arrivals.
In response, the province has introduced new, high-end tourism offerings, developed competitive, diversified services, and continually improved the quality and professionalism of the local cruise fleet.
