PPC Chairman Nguyen Tuong Van launches Tet tree-planting festival in Mong Cai
In response to the "Tree-growing Tet to express Gratitude to Uncle Ho" and the project on one billion tree planting approved by the Government, the Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee launched the New Year Tree Planting Festival in Mong Cai city on Feb. 8.
At the launching ceremony held at the tidal flat at Hamlet No.1 in Hai Tien commune, the authorities and local people planted more than 10,000 mangrove trees.
This type of tree can tolerate saltwater and grow well, creating a rich habitat for many species living in tropical mangrove forest ecosystem such as shrimp, crabs, fish, reptiles. The area of mangrove trees also act as a barrier reducing the influence of floods, waves, strong winds, limit erosion, etc.
It is expected that, in this campaign, Mong Cai city will plant over 22,000 large timber trees with high economic value, making an important contribution to the province’s target to grow at least 2,000 hectares of ironwood trees namely Lim, Gioi, and Lat this year in 2022.
