Power and communications restored to 80% of residents
Power and communications have been restored to 366,000 households, or 80 percent of residents in typhoon Yagi-hit cities and districts across the province. It is expected that 100 percent of Quang Ninh residents will get power access again by September 20.
According to a report released on September 16 by Vietnam Electricity, stable power has been supplied to over 5.98 million customers of the approximately 6.1 million affected by the storm and floods in the northern region.
However, more than 100,000 customers in the affected localities remain without power.
Typhoon Yagi is estimated to have cost Quang Ninh province $960 million, accounting for more than half of the national damages during this storm. 25 people were killed and 1,609 were injured to date. Infrastructure, including electricity, telecommunications, urban areas, and industrial zones, suffered significant damage. Over 70 per cent of trees were felled or uprooted, and 165 vessels sank.
The typhoon caused a total blackout and enhanced communications, leaving many areas without electricity or phone signals for days. The estimated damage inflicted on Quang Ninh has reached a staggering $960 million.
