Quang Ninh sets the target of becoming a service-industrial province by 2020 with tourism functioning as a spearhead sector and a springboard for economic growth. Ha Long – the economic and political capital of Quang Ninh – will be a modern and friendly coastal tourist city and an international-class service center.
To achieve that target, the focal missions consist of protecting the environment and green economic sectors, developing policies and mechanism for breakthrough growth in tourism and services sectors. More importantly, it is necessary to solve the contradiction and challenges among mineral mining and tourism-services development as well as protecting and promoting the values of the world natural heritage and environmental consequences caused by mining in the last hundreds of years.

In recent years, Quang Ninh Province, Ha Long City and coal industry have carried out specific measures to solve the environmental problems, greatly contributing to improve the environment in Ha Long city. For example, making environmental protection plans, moving residents out of landslide-risk areas, modernizing coal conveyor lines, stopping coal transportation on national roads, installing 48 automatic environmental monitoring stations at coal mining sites, applying environmentally friendly technology, shutting down Nam Cau Trang Coal Selection Plant since Jan 1st 2019,…
Quang Ninh is determined to stop 9 open pit mining projects in Ha Long City, including 4 coal mining projects at Ha Tu, Nui Beo, and Ha Lam by the end of this year and the rest from next year to 2025.
