As part of the 2026 golden season festival in Luc Hon Commune, the New Rice Celebration and New Rice Feast Competition took place on October 25 at Luc Na communal house, a historical and cultural site. The event provided an opportunity for the Tay ethnic community to express gratitude to Heaven, Earth and their ancestors for a bountiful harvest, while preserving traditional customs and showcasing the culinary heritage of the highlands to visitors from near and far.
This year’s celebration features harmonious blend of spiritual rituals and community-based tourism experiences. While the ceremonial rites created a solemn atmosphere, the communal house grounds came alive with the New Rice Feast Competition, featuring 11 teams representing 11 villages and hamlets across the commune. Each team prepared a traditional feast for eight to ten people, comprising at least six main dishes, with newly harvested glutinous rice as a must-have dish.
Beyond the ceremonial and culinary activities, the area around the communal house bustled with stalls showcasing OCOP arrowroot vermicelli, cooc mo cakes and traditional brocade embroidery. The “Colours of the Golden Harvest” fashion show also featured students from local schools. Visitors took part in traditional ethnic sports and enjoyed the rustic melodies of Then folk singing beneath the communal house’s moss-covered roof.
By preserving the spiritual and cultural traditions of the Tay people, the New Rice Celebration has emerged as a distinctive autumn-winter tourism attraction, fostering local pride and creating additional livelihood opportunities for residents in this border commune.
