National Swimming and Diving Championship opened in Quang Ninh

On Nov. 24, the 2021 National Swimming and Diving Championship was launched at  the Aquatic Sports Area in Quang Ninh Sports Center located in Dai Yen ward, Ha Long City. The event was jointly organized by the Quang Ninh Department of Culture and Sports, the General Department of Physical Training and Sports, and the Vietnam Aquatic Sports Association.

This annual tournament aims to not only evaluate athletes professional skills but also select exellent ones to join provincial and national teams attending the 9th National Sports Festival and international tournaments in 2022 and the following years.

This year’s championship attracted the participation of 198 athletes from 16 delegations nationwide.

The national sports event offered the good opportunity for young divers and swimmers to improve their skills and learn valuable experience for international and national-level tournaments in the future.

This event also contributed to promoting the images of Quang Ninh province as well as assessing the quality of the province’s facilites used for the forthcoming 31st Seagames and the 9th National Sports Festival in 2022.

To ensure safety amid Covid-19 pandemic, 100% of participants undertook Covid-19 testing prior to taking part in the championship. In addition, the Organizing Committee also conducted random testing for 20% of athletes, referees and delegation members during the event.

Right after the opening ceremony, athletes competed in the freestyle and medley swimming categories.

The tournament is scheduled to take place from November 24 to 30, 2021.
