In the early hours of September 2, more than 4,000 Buddhists, residents and tourists took part in the “Radiant Vietnam” programme at Yen Tu. Organised by the Executive Board of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha in Quang Ninh City to celebrate National Day and Quang Ninh becoming a city, the programme combined mountain climbing for physical exercise with cultural and spiritual rituals, thereby spreading love for the homeland, national pride and a spirit of turning towards the nation’s roots.

From the night of September 1, large numbers of Buddhists, residents and tourists gathered at Yen Tu and began the climb towards Dong Pagoda.
The highlight of the programme took place at 6 a.m. on September 2 with a flag-raising ceremony and the singing of the National Anthem. Immediately afterwards, participants held a prayer ceremony for national peace and public well-being. At 9 a.m., delegates, Buddhists and tourists continued with an incense-offering ceremony at the statue of King-Buddha Tran Nhan Tong in the An Ky Sinh area, bringing the programme’s series of activities to a close.
Although the flag-raising ceremony was scheduled to begin at 6 a.m. on September 2, the sacred summit of Yen Tu was already awash in red before sunrise, with festive attire and national flags ready for the special event.Young people arrived early, proudly expressing their patriotism and waving the red flag with a yellow star.To reach the 1,068-metre sacred summit, many young participants had prepared from 11 p.m. on September 1 and began their journey before dawn on September 2. The path to Hoa Yen Pagoda was already busy at 2–3 a.m., filled with footsteps and the colours of the national flag.A sacred atmosphere filled Yen Tu’s summit as the national anthem rang out powerfully.
