The joyful festival of Bang Ca village

The Bang Ca Village Festival is a traditional event rich in the cultural identity of the Dao Thanh Y ethnic group in Bang Ca commune in Ha Long city. Bang Ca village festival was organized on February 28th, or the first day of the second lunar month, at the cultural reservation area of Dao Thanh Y people in this commune.

This festival serves as a prayer for favorable weather, prosperous harvests, and the well-being of the community. It is held annually on five specific days: the 1st of February, April, July, October (lunar calendar), and the 20th of the twelfth lunar month, with the primary celebration on the 1st of February.

This traditional festival imbued with the unique cultural identity of the Dao Thanh Y ethnic group in Bang Ca commune aims to pray for a new year with favorable weather, good crops, good health and peace for every household.

Dao Thanh Y people in Bang Ca always try to return home to join their largest festival despite how far they live away.

The festival included a range of traditional rituals such as peace worshiping, incensing, etc.

This year's event was particularly significant as it coincided with the announcement of the national intangible cultural heritage status for the Dao Thanh Y's Cap Sac ceremony and the Tay ethnic group's New Rice celebration. Additionally, Bang Ca Commune was recognized for achieving the advanced new rural standard.

The space offers experiences, interactions, and competitions in traditional folk games and ethnic sports such as bamboo dancing, shuttlecock throwing, tug-of-war, and stick pushing.

Students learn about and experience wrapping bánh chưng gù at the village festival.
