The 13th Vietnam Conference on Nuclear Science and Technology officially opened on Aug. 7, in Ha Long city. Prominent among those at the conference were Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Pham Cong Tac, Quang Ninh’s Vice Chairwoman Vu Thi Thu Thuy, representative leader of Dong Nai Provincial People’s Committee, along with over 400 researchers from more than 40 Science and Technology, Education - Training organizations, as well as domestic and foreign research agencies.
Speaking at the conference, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Pham Cong Tac emphasized that Vietnam has gained much achievements in the research, development, application and training activities in the field of atomic energy over the years. He hoped to receive valuable contributions from participants, especially scientific research results as well as international exchange cooperation in the field of atomic energy to continue to apply in reality.
Quang Ninh’s Vice Chairwoman Vu Thi Thu Thuy informed that there have 75 radiation facilities in Quang Ninh with 231 X-ray transmitters and 54 radioactive sources. She said that through this conference, Quang Ninh also wishes to receive more support and cooperation of the related ministries, sectors, international organizations and experts to apply nuclear technologies and techniques to achieve the goals of socio-economic development, environmental protection and community health care.
During the plenary session on August 7, speeches covers a number of issues, such as the contribution of nuclear science and technology to sustainable development; current status of Vietnam Atomic Institute and new research reactor project in Vietnam; research results in global nuclear safety and security; application of radiation processing technology in Vietnam, etc…
The conference on Nuclear Science and Technology is held every 2 years. This is an important event in the research, deployment and application of Vietnam's atomic energy industry. It is a good occasion for both domestic and foreign scientists and experts to exchange research results and new applications in the field of nuclear science and technology.
