"Treasure hunting" in the heart of the world heritage site

There is a precious lady’s dotted slipper orchid growing on mountains in Ha Long Bay. The flowers look beautiful and may evoke your curiosity.

Lady’s dotted slipper orchid (or Paphiopedilum Concolor in scientific name) is considered a treasure of Ha Long Bay. This endemic plant of Vietnam, living on limestone mountains, is classified among endangered species in the world and listed in the Red Book.

Realizing the importance and preciosity of the flower, Ha Long Bay Management Department undertook a site survey in 2015. Then in 2016, they piloted planting around 100 lady’s dotted slipper orchid plants in Cong Dam area. Good results motivated them to expand this pilot project to the areas of Cua Van Floating Cultural Center  and Cong Dam in 2017 with more than 500 plants.

The project of planting lady’s dotted slipper orchid on Ha Long Bay plays an important role in preserving precious genetic source offering a database for researching, exploring and learning activities.
