Quang Ninh tops PCI rankings for 5 consecutive years
Quang Ninh province continued to retain the first position in Viet Nam’s Provincial Competitiveness Index (PCI). This information was announced by the Viet Nam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) and the US Agency for International Development (USAID) at a ceremony held in Ha Noi this morning.
On behalf of Quang Ninh leaders, Secretary of the provincial Party Committee Nguyen Xuan Ky and Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Tuong Van attended the meeting.
This is the fifth time that Quang Ninh has topped this ranking with 73.02 points. Quang Ninh is the only locality to see the quality of economic governance achieve a ‘very good’ ranking, according to the results of provincial competitiveness index (PCI) report 2021.
The provinces and cities in the top five of the 2021 PCI ranking include Hai Phong, Dong Thap, Da Nang, and Vinh Phuc, respectively.
Despite countless difficulties in 2021, Quang Ninh has been an attractive destination for investors with the total non-budget investment capital of over VND 360 trillion. In which, new-generation FDI reached nearly USD 1.2 billion, nearly 3 times higher than that of 2020. The province is now home to 145 FDI projects owned by investors from 20 countries and territories with a total registered investment capital of about USD 8.15 billion.
This result reflected local people's confidence in the government as wel as the increasing appreciation from the business community and investors towards the governance and management of Quang Ninh government, especially in the context of Covid-19 pandemic resulting in countless challenges.
Speaking at the cermony, Secretary of the provincial Party's Committee, Nguyen Xuan Ky, stressed that the positive result shows the great efforts of Quang Ninh in improving the bussiness climate and raising the povincial competitive index. It also shows Quang Ninh’s big changes in its rapid development orientation as well as its great efforts to fulfill commitments to effectively resolving the existing difficulties facing local enterprises.
The PCI 2021 report has been designed based on feedback from roughly 11,312 enterprises, including 10,127 domestic private firms from 63 provinces and cities, as well as nearly 1,185 foreign-invested enterprises across 22 provinces.
The PCI report highlighted the great efforts made by Quang Ninh province last year in terms of accelerating the administrative reform and improving the local business climate in a proactive and drastic manner, thereby helping save time for enterprises.
