Mulan, the second storm to enter Vietnamese waters this year, weakened into a tropical depression after entering the Gulf of Tonkin last night, causing heavy rains in northern and north central Vietnam. The tropical depression lay centered over Quang Ninh province at 4 a.m Thursday with wind speed of 49 kph.

In response to storm impacts, Quang Ninh authoritites decided to close public beaches and halt all of the tourism activities at tourist hotspots in Ha Long Bay from Wednesday afternoon due to the impacts of Storm Mulan.

All tourist cruise ships on the bay were ordered to suspend operation from Wednesday afternoon.

In Co To Island, district authorities had informed tourists about the storm and boat schedules so that they could decide to return to the mainland or stay on the island. It is reported that many tourists had left the island, but there are still more than 260 domestic tourists left.

Thanks to the province’s thorough preparation, no damage to humans or property has been reported currently.
