Quang Ninh delegation attends the 46th session of the World Heritage Committee

On behalf of Quang Ninh leaders, Vice Chairwoman of the Provincial People's Committee, Nguyen Thi Hanh, attends the 46th session of the World Heritage Committe taking place in New Delhi, India from 21-31 July, 2024.

Vice Chairwoman of the Provincial People's Committee, Nguyen Thi Hanh, delivered a report at the meeting.

The 46th session of the World Heritage Committee brings together delegates from across the globe to discuss and collaborate on preserving our shared cultural, natural and mixed heritage. The meeting is a significant step towards fostering global cooperation and ensuring the protection of our World Heritage properties. 

The World Heritage Committee comprises of representatives from 21 States Parties to the World Heritage Convention (1972) elected by the General Assembly of UNESCO. Current members of the World Heritage Committee as on elections in the 24th General Assembly of UNESCO (November 2023), are as follows: Argentina, Belgium, Bulgaria, Greece, India, Italy, Jamaica, Japan, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Lebanon, Mexico, Qatar, Republic of Korea, Rwanda, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Senegal, Türkiye, Ukraine, Viet Nam, and Zambia. 

Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Nguyen Thi Thanh, presented a souvenir to Mr. Lazare Assomo, Director of the UNESCO World Heritage Center.

Vietnam delegation includes representatives of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Vietnam National Committee for UNESCO, and provinces and cities possessing world heritage sites.

The grand opening ceremony was held on July 21 at the Bharat Mandapam Convention Center, New Delhi, in the presence of Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, and UNESCO General Director , Audrey Azoulay.

Vice Chairwoman of the Provincial People's Committee introduced to the Japanese Ambassador about Quang Ninh province.

As scheduled, Quang Ninh delegation will present its report on the province’s great efforts to protect and promote the values of the world heritage site of Ha Long Bay, consult international agencies and experts about relevant content of the dossier on Ha Long Bay’s biodiversity and the criteria for building “a learning city” to participate in the "global learning city" network run by UNESCO in Quang Ninh province.

Quang Ninh also targets to cultivate the support from member countries of the World Heritage Committee for the nomination dossier of the Yen Tu Complex of Monuments and Landscapes submitted to UNESCO for nominating as a heritage of humanity.
