Ban Cau Village in Luc Hon Commune is gradually establishing itself as a destination with strong appeal, drawing on the traditional cultural values of the Tay ethnic community. Its traditional houses, local cuisine, handicrafts and village scenery offer considerable potential for developing community-based tourism while preserving local identity.
During a pilot tour in April 2026 under a project supported by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Japanese visitors explored traditional houses, tried their hand at preparing five-colour sticky rice, learnt bamboo weaving and gained insights into local daily life. Since the beginning of 2026, Ban Cau has welcomed nearly 20 tourist groups.
To realise this potential, Luc Hon Commune is focusing on infrastructure development, workforce training and the creation of suitable visitor experiences. The commune plans to select at least five local households to take leading roles, standardise tour programmes and strengthen links with travel companies and nearby tourist destinations.
Community-based tourism can help preserve and promote Tay cultural heritage while enabling residents to provide tourism services directly and increase their incomes. Careful planning is essential to balance tourism development with the preservation of local traditions and the development of sustainable livelihoods.
