Over 8 million fish fingerlings released into the Gulf of Tonkin
On May 18, the Vietnamese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Chinese counterpart, and Quang Ninh province officials held a ceremony for releasing fish fingerlings to regenerate the Gulf of Tonkin's aquatic resources.
The program is part of the Memorandum of Understanding on collaboration in releasing and preserving aquatic resources in the Gulf of Tonkin signed between the Vietnamese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Chinese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in 2017.
The two parties have jointly organized four release activities in the Gulf of Tokin since 2017. This is the first time the two countries have held the ceremony to restore aquatic resources simultaneously in the seas of their respective Gulfs of Tonkin due to the impacts of Covid-19. Speeches delivered by the Chinese MARA's representative and the Chinese Embassy's representative were broadcast during the ceremony.

Addressing the event, MARD Deputy Minister Phung Duc Tien confirmed that regenerating aquatic resources is a key task in Vietnam's fisheries development strategy to 2030 with a vision to 2050.
He proposed that the two countries promote cooperation in the field of protecting and developing aquatic resources for the common growth of aquatic resource in the Gulf of Tonkin and in the agro-fisheries sector.

It is expected that fisheries will account for about 2% of the province's GRDP and about 60% of the province's agricultural GRDP in 2030.
Quang Ninh province has recently poured a considerable amount of funding into the protection and development of aquatic resources in particular and the sector of fishery in general.
