Vietnam received over 5.55 million foreign arrivals in the first seven months of the year, a 24% rise over a year earlier, reported the General Statistics Office (GSO).
Of this, foreign arrivals by air were nearly 4.66 million, up 28.7% while those by sea and road were over 86,000 and 806,000, up 22.4% and 8.2%, respectively.
Almost all markets sending tourists to Vietnam witnessed growth compared to the same period last year, including Hong Kong-China (111.8%), China (54.5%), Thailand (37.2%), the Republic of Korea (37%), Laos (30.8%), Sweden (24.3%), Russia (22.5%) and Japan (12.6%).
Specifically, the five Western European markets receiving visa stay extension for 15 days within one year under Government Resolution 56/NQ-CP (effective June 30th, 2016) continued to see sharp increase: Italy (30.4%), Spain (24.2%), the UK (23.4%), Germany (17.5%) and France (13.2%).
According to statistics by the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, the country provided services to 38.2 million domestic tourists, in which tourists staying overnight reached 18.4 million. Total turnover from tourists was estimated to post over VND234.9 trillion, a year-on-year rise of 22.9%.
