Quang Ninh’s Mieu Ong - Mieu Ba has been recognized as one of 15 new national relic sites in provinces and cities nationwide by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
Mieu Ong, or anciently named the holy temple of Tam Tri, worships Saint Tran Ta - General Le Ba Duc (or Le Tu Duc). He was instrumental in defending King Tran Nhan Tong, King’s father Tran Thanh Tong and Commander-in-chief Tran Quoc Tuan when they took refuge in the Ba Che River in early 1285 during Tran dynasty to prepare for a long-term combat. Opposite Ong Temple across the river is Mieu Ba, a place to worship Mau Thuong Ngan, the Queen of the green forest.
The Mieu Ong - Mieu Ba Festival is annually held on the first day of the 3rd lunar month, or April to show gratitude towards those who have great contributions to the country. In addition to historical and spiritual values, the site is renowned for its beautiful landscapes as well.
So far, Quang Ninh has been home to 55 national relic sites, 5 special relic heritage ones and 84 provincial ones. There are also 488 destinations that have already been classified but have yet to be ranked.
As planned, Ba Che district is going to organize a ceremony of receiving the national relic recognition certificate at Mieu Ong - Mieu Ba in December.
Ba Che District in the northern province of Quang Ninh has for a long time been known as a locality with great potential to develop eco-tourism in the northeastern region of the country. Most of the total area of over 606sq.km is covered in mountains, with pristine forests, rivers, and waterfalls. The district is home to 27,430 people of various ethnic groups including the Dao, Tay, Hoa, San Chi and Cao Lan.
