International visitors to Vietnam continue to increase
Thanks to the implementation of the pilot route to welcome international passengers, with many international routes having been restored, international arrivals to Vietnam in February increased by 49.6% over the previous month and 169.6% over the same period last year.
The report on socio-economic development in February and the first two months of 2022 published by the General Statistics Office on February 28 shows that international visitors to Vietnam in February reached 29,500 arrivals, an increase of 49 .6% over the previous month and up 169.6% over the same period last year.
In the first two months of 2022, international visitors to Vietnam were estimated at 49,200 arrivals, up 71.7% over the same period last year.
Of this figure, the number of arrivals by air reached 43,200, accounting for 87.8% of international arrivals to Vietnam - an increase of 135.4%; arrivals by road reached nearly 6,000, accounting for 12.1% - a decrease of 41.7%; and arrivals by sea reached 28 arrivals, accounting for 0.1% - a decrease of 53.3%.
The estimated revenue of travel services in February 2022 hit VND 1 trillion, up 39.4% over the same period last year. In the first two months of 2022, it is estimated to have reached 2 trillion VND, down 10.9% from the same period last year.
Accommodation and food services in February were estimated at 41.5 trillion VND, up 12.6% over the same period last year. In the first 2 months of 2022, it is estimated to have reached 82.3 trillion VND, down 1.8% from the same period last year.
The above figures show positive signals about the recovery of the tourism industry in 2022. According to statistics of the National Administration of Tourism, this year's Lunar New Year holiday has witnessed domestic tourism demand, with about 6.1 million domestic visitors, of which 3.2 million guests stayed overnight at tourist accommodation establishments. Total revenue from tourists has been estimated at more than 25 trillion VND.
After four months of piloting the return of international arrivals, Vietnam has welcomed more than 9,000 international visitors. The entire tourism industry is currently trying to best prepare for the safe, efficient and quality reopening of tourism activities under new normal conditions from March 15, with expectations for a year of revival growth.
