Hà Nội suspends Hoàn Kiếm Lake pedestrian zone during Lunar New Year
The Hoàn Kiếm District People's Committee has announced the temporary suspension of walking spaces around the Hoàn Kiếm Lake and Hà Nội's Old Quarter areas during the Lunar New Year holiday.
The Tết holiday will fall in the next two weeks.
The suspension aims to create favourable conditions for people and tourists to travel and have fun during the Lunar New Year holiday.
The temporary suspension of pedestrian-only zones will last from February 9 to 7pm on February 23.
The Hoàn Kiếm District People's Committee asked the people's committees of concerned units and wards in the area to proactively coordinate and implement assigned tasks well.
They are responsible for ensuring security, urban order, traffic safety, environmental protection and fire prevention for the people and tourists.
On Lunar New Year's Eve this year, the district will have two fireworks display sites, in front of the Hà Nội Mới (New Hà Nội) Newspaper headquarters and in front of the Hà Nội Post Office.
The Hoàn Kiếm Lake pedestrian space consists of Đinh Tiên Hoàng, Lê Thái Tổ and Hàng Khay streets surrounding the lake, as well as nearby streets in the Old Quarter.
The zone was opened on September 1, 2016 and expanded later in 2020.
The walking area opens every week from 7pm on Friday to 12am on Sunday.
It has been the area for numerous cultural and entertaining activities, attracting thousands of visitors every weekend.
